Seminars for Professionals

Seminar and Training Proposal for Osteopaths

Introduction
As a professional institute of learning and ongoing education for various health professionals including osteopaths, you may find the following information useful.

Most of my working life has been served as an osteopath and chiropractor. During this time the obligations set by the professional associations and health care organizations have been fulfilled by attending seminars and workshops with a view to helping patients even further. I am sure that all working professionals are sometimes wondering if the content of the courses or congress subjects really provides useful information, techniques or methods one can readily utilize in the practice to help relieve or cure the patient.

It also seems that there are gaps in the osteopath's basic education, particularly in the areas of patient relations, ethics, appropriate handling, history taking and even in the true philosophy of what we are doing.

I have been treating patients since 1973 when I gained my diplomas in both Osteopathy and Chiropractic. In 1978, I earned doctorates for these disciplines with research, specifically into migraine headaches. My practice in Sydney, Australia, ran for several years before I was sponsored to speak all over the world running seminars in the subjects of health, stress management and self reliance. Business programs in Transactional Analysis, psycho-cybernetics and custom designed training were also part of the mandate. This work eventually brought me to Switzerland where I am once again, in full time private osteopathic practice.

The Purpose:
Over the years I have gathered useful and functional information relevant to the natural/alternative professions, particularly in osteopathy. For various reasons, the hoped for opportunities have not arisen that allow me to pass on these experiences to colleagues, younger practitioners or even students. Before I retire I would like to rectify that situation.

Following, is a list of only some of the subjects essential for practice that have been basically ignored in favour of a more academic or ‘intellectual’ approach that has often given us theoretical material without the practical application or solutions.

The Training Possibilities:
Listed are only some of the subjects available that can be formulated into custom speeches, presentations, seminars and workshops for osteopaths.
  • Hands on Techniques that many practitioners in Switzerland or indeed in most of Europe will never have seen. For example:

Low back decompression techniques (includes self help methods)

Self help Lumbar methods that will not ‘turn the patient off’.

      Frozen Shoulder instant relief.

Headache and Migraine techniques (include self help methods)

Hands on, intuitive diagnosis (intellect and logic out of the way)

Bold new information on lifting outdating the conventional wisdom.

  • Patient Relations... How to put patients at ease. How to explain what we do without giving the impression that what we do is; a) suspect, b) dangerous, c) Hokus Pokus, d) in conflict with the medical establishment e) too alternative, f) not alternative enough.

  • Patient Motivation... Gaining trust so that they will continue treatment until their problem is cleared.

  • Patient Interaction... Formal or Informal? Authoritarian or Easy Going? A professional practitioner must relate to all of these and be able to judge how to relate successfully with each one.

  • History taking. You can save a lot of time with the right questions.

  • Motivation of patients to self-help and lifestyle appraisal.

  • Charisma and personality building for talented practitioners who can’t manage to make a positive impression on their patients.

  • Attracting business and patients by just being good at your job. Also forgotten in the modern school is interpersonal relationships, selling, marketing and promoting.

  • Healing Philosophy. Real Healing from the heart and soul outside text book theory and intellectual analysis.

Cover Book

In 2003, Orell Füssli published my book called "Der Charisma-Faktor". Although the goal was to help show business people how to gain more stage presence, the information in this book was utilised by many people in business to help make presentations and speeches. This training was also carried out for major companies like, Ringier, NEC, Digital, Eriksson and Xerox.

A Small test training session for some of the material was carried out with selected Osteopaths. The result was positive with requests to visit the Practice to see the work in action.

I would deem it an honour to make a presentation to you and your board.

Yours very sincerely,

G. G. P. Turner  DO, DC.
